Exclusive Entrevista: Akwid

Akwid was chillin’ con Blogamole at the Mi TRL studios where they had some down time to chat on their recent Rock Dinner experience and everything else in between. The guys were super down to earth, cracking jokes (like asking donde están los Jonas Brothers) and having a good laugh before show time. They sure did get the audience pumped when it came time for their live performance which you can catch on Mi TRL tomorrow at 4PM. In the meantime, check out our one-on-one interview with the “Ranchero” chavos after the jump!

(L to R: Sergio Gomez, DJ Massive and Francisco Gomez)

Tell us about your experience with Rock Dinner?
Sergio Gomez: The thing is that they [MTV Tr3s] bring the show to the actual people’s house and that’s the amazing part. Going to the neighborhood where they live and being in their house and then preparing the meals. I think it’s a nice roller coaster ride for the fans.

How was the food?
Sergio: It wasn’t the best but it was alright (Laughs).

What can we expect to find inside your refrigerator?
Sergio: Traditional Mexican food

Francisco Gomez: Beans, rice, jalapeños…

Sergio: Carne, de todo. We’re good cooks, self employed. I think we have good taste in cooking. It just comes naturally.

Francisco: A lot of the recipes are from my family. You know my aunt, my mom.

How was life different being raised by a single mother?
Sergio: It’s hard to compare it to another life because it’s the only one you learn. I would say typical. You look back at the life you live and I can’t stay that I have any complaints about that because, like I said, as you’re growing up and living that lifestyle you don’t see anything wrong with it. That’s just the way it is.

What made you want to work with so many artists in the regional genre for your new album La Novela?
Francisco: As far as the arrangements, which were done by the Venezuelan Brothers who do a lot regional mexican music, is to do a song that fits that artist as far as the music [goes]. So we always have a list of artists that we would like to work with so we based it on doing songs to those [particular] artists. It’s what we do. We mix the regional mexican with the hip-hop.

Sergio: The reason there’s more [artist collaboration] in this album is because we needed to set a really strong foundation for what we wanted to get across. Each and everyone of these artists, like Francisco says, represent a certain part that we try to reflect across each of the individual songs. It’s called La Novela because each song is considered to be a different episode of our life. It all makes sense if you listen from beginning to end.

What’s your take on the ranchero music scene?
Sergio: ranchero? Where’s my sombrero (Laughs). It’s our culture. Culturally we belong to both genres. We learn the ranchero (Laughing again) music from our lifestyle and hip-hop here in the States. So it represents us 100 percent. Who we are, what we talk about and what our culture is about.

Who are your favorite artists from the hip-hop genre and the regional genre?
Sergio: Beyoncé was my favorite until she got married (Laughs).

Francisco: Most of my favorites are in the past. All the new hip-hop right now, I don’t have nothing I can say that’s cool.

What do you do on your free time?
Sergio: I’m the DVD video king. I watch DVD movies. And [taking care of] the fish.

Fish?
Francisco: He’s Ace Ventura Pet Detective. I DJ in the club on weekends. You may catch me DJing in the [L.A.] clubs on the weekend by surprise.
