Coming to us all the way from Bogotá, Colombia (although he came straight from Miami when we had this interview) is Grammy winning artist Fonseca with his new album Gratitud. He was hanging out in the green room strumming his guitar when we walked in and interrupted his solo session to talk with him about everyday things like his new album, what he thinks about fellow Colombianos Juanes and Shakira and his causal yet unique style. Get to know this sweet and mellow “dreamer” as we hung out with him before his performance on Mi TRL!

Tell us about your new album?
My new album is called Gratitud and it comes with 13 songs, it’s my third album. I’m really proud of it because of the new sounds so I’m just waiting for the 27th [of May] because we’re releasing the album that week. I’m looking forward on what’s going to happen this year. It’s a big year for me. This is my second album here in the States, my third album in my career. It’s going to be a tough year but it’s going to be a good year.
Will you go on tour to support it?
I’m not sure about that. We’re going to have to wait to see what happens when we release the album. I want to tour but I don’t know yet. First, we’re going to release this album and then we’re going to think of a special edition for November to have some collaborations and duets with other singers.
What’s the best part about performing live?
Ah, that’s the best for me. That’s what I really like about what I do (laughs). It’s like magic. When things go live, when you see something live it has a special magic that happens with music and being on stage. For me it’s like the best price I can get for doing what I do and it’s my dream come true. When I was a kid [at five-years-old] I was already dreaming about being on stage and that was my biggest dream.

As a Colombian, how does it feel to have singers like Juanes and Shakira get involved in projects such as ALAS and Paz Sin Fronteras?
Yea, that’s great! Juanes with his concert, Paz Sin Fronteras, that was great because that was telling the whole world that the problem between Colombia and Ecuador and Venezuela was not a problem between the Colombians and the Venezuelans and the people from Ecuador but it was a political problem and nothing else. I think when they [Shakira and Juanes] do this kind of concerts they use music for really, really good reasons so it’s beautiful.
In honor of our show Rock Dinner, we want to know what you love to eat.
I’m not that good at cooking but I love meat, so I’m a really big fan. I don’t know…delivery! My girlfriend cooks, she’s really good at cooking so that’s also a safe thing (laughs).
Any hobbies?
Hanging around, some TV, walking. If I can get some Seinfeld, I’m a big fan of Seinfeld.

Fonseca's cool red kicks!
Tell us about your style?
I buy most of my clothes from Colombia but I don’t have one particular designer. What I like is what I wear. It’s always changing. Sometimes I feel like wearing only black clothes and sometimes a little bit more color. It changes a lot. It also depends on the day. Like today I’m really gray because of the rain (laughs).
