It's the usual story: we create something and, way after the fact, los gringos "discover" it and take it as their own. First guacamole, and now a quirky lil singer by the name of Julieta Venegas.

The release of the Julieta Venegas: MTV Unplugged album last week has garnered the Grammy-winning mexicana much attention, especially from those north of the border. Rightfully so, as the CD notched a Top-10 chart debut in its first week of release, and its first single "El Presente" is currently the most added song at Latin pop radio stations across the country.
Julieta is definitely the "it" girl these days. Condé Nast's Daily Traveler blog writer John Oseid went so far as to say she's his new obsession (before giving MTV Tr3s a shout-out for our kick-ass Julieta content! Qué padre!). No hay duda that Julieta deserves all the worldwide praise she's getting. Pero, una pregunta: what took so long? She's only been around for diez años now!
If you haven't caught Julieta's MTV Unplugged, shame on you! You can still watch the full show and check out some cool performance pics featuring La Mala Rodríguez and Gustavo Santaolalla here.
Know what's even better? You can catch Julieta live this summer at a city near you thanks to MTV Tr3s En Tour. The tour kicks off in Denver on August 7th, and she will also be showcasing her "Unplugged" live at Central Park in New York City as part of the LAMC festivities on July 12th. And, you guessed it, she's bringing along her entire Unplugged orchestra:
I’ve never toured with a group this big or made such an ambitious tour. I’m terrified by the idea, but it’s also a lot of fun.
We can't wait!
