Chisme Del Cine: The Dark Knight

While movie goers are stampeding into theaters este fin de semana to watch Heath Ledger’s final act as The Joker in Batman thriller: The Dark Knight, we’ll be hitting el cine to to check out the film’s Latino cred. You’d never know it from the ads, pero Cuban-American actor Nestor Carbonell (Cane, Lost) is playing the Mayor of Gotham (sooo fancy) in the latest Batman installation. We were excited to catch up with Nestor and hear what it was like to be cast in the flick del verano:

Cuando recibí la oferta del alcalde de la ciudad gótica fue una cosa increíble, pensé que se equivocaron y no sabía si era verdad, pero, nada, estaba tan contento y bueno, el primer alcalde latino de la ciudad gótica ahí tratando de representar, pero, nada, fue una experiencia bárbara.

There was no mistake mijo! Nestor has been paying his dues long enough and it’s about time we see Latinos run the city!

  1. he was AWESOME in batman!
  2. I agree! I was so excited to see him on the big screen and realize he was playing the part of the Mayor. It was a great platform to make that statement, (a movie going down in history for biggest opening and for being Heath’s last movie… AND for being the first movie shot fully intended for iMAX) a Latino in a noteworthy position of importance. Quite indicative of current times! I also appreciate that the movie didn't emphasize on the fact that he was Latino, simply the mayor of a significant city, who happened to be Latino.
