Baby Boy is a master at serenading the ladies and has topped the Billboard charts with his summer jam “Ya No Llores / Let me Love You,” but this fella is also well-versed when it comes to spittin’ street knowledge. He may look like a youngen, but the divorced father of two knows more about la vida than you think. The Florida native shared several words of wisdom while chatting with us behind-the-scenes of Mi TRL earlier this week.
Check out our exclusive interview with Baby Boy under the hood!
What kind of advice would you offer a younger version of yourself?
One of the biggest things I would go back and correct is to tell myself to do better. To study as hard as my parents did because sometimes we tend to think we know it all and that’s a problem. When you start hanging around with your homeboys and homegirls in school you lose focus sometimes. I always had my family pushing me in school, but they always ended up wondering ‘why does this kid never bring a book home from school?’ [Laughs] If I could go back, I would take their advice because there is nothing better than hearing ‘that kid is really smart.’ It is the best feeling you can give yourself.
What was your inspiration for “Ya No Llores / Let me Love You”?
The song is dedicated to our Latin women. We come from very traditional families and we are raised with a lot of moral values. Sometimes we hold that greater than anything else, which is very appropriate and natural, but on the flip side we get caught up with those ideas too much. A lot of women are in relationships they don’t want to be in, but because of friends and family opinions and how it looks for a woman to step out of a relationship, they keep themselves there. My message to women is that it isn’t cool and there is someone else out there trying to give you what you deserve.
Speaking of relationships, what kind of women are you attracted to?
Every woman is special in every single way. Right now, I don’t have the time to give that part of my life my all. A relationship takes more commitment than anything else, and the minute you can’t give 150% and make your queen first…don’t get into a relationship.
What is one thing that fans don’t know about you yet?
I don’t like sushi. I love seafood, but I don’t like sushi. No raw food!
While we try and fix up a snack for our boy, be sure to check out Baby Boy on Mi TRL this Thursday @4pm!
