There is no doubt that Colby O'Donis' lyrical pimpin' skills and suave moves have been on full-blast since we last spoke to him in an exclusive interview back in April. Besides getting ready to drop his self-titled debut album on Sept. 16th, the Queens native has managed to skip rookie status by snagging two VMA nominee votes in the categories for "Best New Artist" and "Best Dancing In A Video." In celebration of his noms, Colby will be performing live at the MTV Tr3s VMA party on September 4th!
The fly boy was kind enough to tease his fans during this week's Mi TRL with an electrifying performance of "Don't Turn Back" that is sure to you drooling in your seat. We had a chance to chat exclusively with the fly boy while he cooled off and ate a slice of his favorite pizza...courtesy of Carlos. Your career has blown-up within the last couple of months. What are the best and the worst parts about being a mainstream star?
Everything has changed for the better. I just bought a house in Los Angeles and I just feel really blessed about everything. I love my fans, and there is just nothing negative I can say about it all.
What about your personal life? Are you finding the time to date anyone right now?
Right now I am single. I am looking for someone, but right now I have been really busy and touring on the road a lot. I actually had a girlfriend for four years, but we broke up a while ago. Well, she dumped me actually. She wasn't used to the whole lifestyle because she was used to seeing me everyday and now I am never home. I am a relationship guy so I trust that there is someone out there for me.
How do you feel about your VMA nominations and forming part of the star line-up at the MTV Tres VMA party?
It's fun! I'm excited. I can't wait to perform with Calle 13. It's going to be even nicer to be back home so I can be with my family for a little while.
What is your most memorable MTV Tr3s moment?
This is a new one for me. Performing for my fans and getting Ray's pizza...this one was crazy!
What can fans expect from your self-titled debut album?
A lot of great musicality. I have a lot of talented artists collaborating with me ... even though I won't spoil it by telling you who!
How was it performing at the U.S. Open last week?
We watched Blake and Roddick practicing so that was cool. I also got to meet Menudo and we might do something together in the future. They are really cool guys and really down to earth.
Do you play any sports?
Yeah, actually I have been trying to get back into tennis. I used to play it with my mom when I was young. A few weeks ago I was warming up [on my game] because I had to do an event at a school. Now whenever I am free I try to practice a little...it's fun.
