As Twilight fans eagerly await the book's silver screen adaptation on November 21st, avid readers of Stephenie Meyer are also anxious to read her opus-in-progress, Midnight Sun.
In this fifth installment of the vampire series the author retells the Twilight story from Edward Cullens' perspective. That all sounds great, no? Un problema -- the story got leaked! Only a few chapters into the project someone hacked into Meyer's personal computer, and posted a draft of the story online. In response to the act, Stephenie posted a link on her website with the partial draft of Midnight Sun and announced that this may be the end of the road for her and the fifth Twilight novel. Says Stephenie:
So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.
OME NO!!! SAY IT AINT SO!!! We might never hear Edwards' version of the best vampire love story ever! Internet hackers are ruining our lives!
Could this be el fin de Crepúsculo? Perhaps a call from Larry Carroll can help. Ayúdanos Larry! [stepheniemeyer.com]
