Even though esta chica is fresh outta rehab, Eva is done playing the bad girl Latina gangsta girlfriend in flicks like We Own the Night and Training Day. The actress is finally gettin’ props as the ‘Big Boss Lady’ for a new movie, Queen of the South, a Scarface-inspired story about a Mexican narcotics crime boss who becomes the lead drug smuggler in Spain. Mendes reportedly beat out Jennifer Lopez and Penélope Cruz for the role! Great choice, Penélope looks too innocent and we hate to admit it but J.Lo’s new madrecita image just doesn’t fit the part. The movie is a screen adaptation of Arturo Perez Reverte’s crime novel, La Reina del Sur. No news yet on when the movie is set to release. [Cinematical]
