Selena Gomez plays a brujita on television, but the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress is a world renown hero in la vida real. How exactly does a 16-year-old chica conquer that role?

The Disney star remains a loyal advocate to a handful of organizations, including the political initiative UR Votes Count, the youth rescue foundation AmberWatch, UNICEF, and the animal rights group Conservation International, among others. Selena joined several Latina social activists like Cameron Diaz, Christina Aguilera, and Salma Hayek in honoring CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of 2008 at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood yesterday.

We know our chiquita was secretly hoping to bump into her idol Salma again! She exclusively told Blogamole about the first time she ever met the Mexican actress:

I was actually having a heart attack not too long ago because I got to visit Salma Hayek at her office. I was so excited to meet her because when I was younger my family, and my dad in particular loved Salma. He always thought she was beautiful and even had a poster of her. I was like a little kid when I saw her…it was so exciting.

Yep, Ms. Hayek is a pretty big deal. That mamacita is the mother load of philanthropy! Sounds like Selena has learned from the best. [CNN]

Selena Gomez doesn’t take chismes lightly! The Disney star is setting the record straight about her recent comments suggesting that she would never sing about an ex-boyfriend.

The 16-year-old star recently admitted that her upcoming album would not include tracks about unworthy ex-novios who have broken her heart. The comment quickly climbed up the grapevine, and left many people wondering if Selena was hating on someone in particular (Hint: Taylor Swift for trashing Nick’s hermano Joe Jonas?).

Selena reveals that filming for the Disney channel movie for “Wizards Of Waverly Place” will take place in New York City, and will feature her character Alex getting bit by the “Lovebug.” The actress may have a secret romance with Nick Jonas, but she secretly wishes that her on-screen novio could be none-other-than her grande celebrity crush Shia LaBeouf.

She offers the 411 on Alex’s amor:

She gets her first boyfriend. His name is Daniel, and he’s just this really sweet guy who, I honestly think, has a lot of potential. I think he’s going to do great. No, [he doesn't know our secret] yet.

Selena even admits her real obsession with Shia:

You’d think that as much as I promote it [he'd be coming on]. I’m, like, begging, but it’s not happening. I know I’m a nerd! Please, Shia, come on my show!

Selena Gomez is putting her fashion skills to the test!

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress is ready to create several enchanting t-shirt designs for a good cause. Selena is teaming-up with Palomita Clothing and designing tops for teen chicas with slogans like “Believe in Yourself” and “Dream Out Loud.” The chiquita is letting her imagination shine with sparkling designs that include glitter, butterflies, and rhinestones.

The proceeds will go to the Palomita Education Fund, a charity dedicated to helping Latinos successfully finish their undergraduate college education. The teen role model shares:

It was a rewarding experience to design a t-shirt for the Palomita Education foundation which is dedicated to improving the lives of Latinos through education. It is great to be part of such a wonderful charity.
