Eva Mendes Is 'Queen Of The South'

eva_bigboss.png
Eva is done playing the stereotypical Latina girlfriend in ‘gangsta’ peliculas like We Own the Night and Training Day. The actress is finally gettin’ props as the ‘Big Boss Lady’ for her new “Scarface-like” movie, Queen of the South. Mendes reportedly beat out Jennifer Lopez and Penélope Cruz for the role of Mexican narcotics crime boss who becomes the lead drug smuggler in Spain. Great choice, Penélope looks too innocent and we hate to admit it but Jennifer has an image that just doesn’t fit. The movie is a screen adaptation of Arturo Perez Reverte’s crime novel, La Reina del Sur. No news yet on when the movie is set to release. [Cinematical]

MTV Movie Awards, Get Out The Vote For Your Favorite Flix!

Raunchy guy humor and a cynical pregnant teen are the shining stars at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. “Superbad” and “Juno” take the nomination for Best Movie despite some major competish with mega-action flicks like “I Am Legend,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Transformers” and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.” Those money-guzzling blockbusters got nothing on low budget flicks! Did Will Smith really need to have all those computer animated zombies? Did “Transformers” have to have explosives in every five minutes of the film? Did Johnny Depp really need to be in a pirate boat? Okay, maybe they did but we’re super stoked that “Juno” and “Superbad” were able to make the cut along these movie giants. Get on over to MTV Movie Awards to check out the rest of the nominees and vote for who will take home that bucket of palomitas de maíz on June 1!

Guillermo Del Toro Is The 'Mexican Hobbit Master'

jackson_deltoro.png
El talentoso Latino, Guillermo del Toro, is taking Peter Jackson’s job as the new director for the prequels to The Lord of the Rings. Since the announcement, Jackson has been muttering ‘They took our jobs!’ and railing against New Zealand’s immigration policy. Hehe, estamos bromeando!

There’s no mala sangre here. Jackson handpicked the Mexican-ite himself to direct The Hobbit and its sequel because Del Toro is all that when it comes to film-making. He’ll get cracking on The Hobbit when he’s finished with post-production of Hellboy 2, which hits theaters this July! Finishing up the two “LOTR” prequels will take Del Toro four years to complete. Wow, that’s some hard labor right there. No wonder Jackson is outsourcing his job to Del Toro. Okay, that was our last joke, we swear! [Stuff.co.nz]

'Twilight' Makes Its Comic-Con Debut

The book-turned-movie that’s driving vampire lovers muy locos made its mind-blowing behind-the-scenes appearance at last weekend’s Comic-Con in NYC. For some who may not know (though that’s highly unlikely), the Twilight phenomenon started back in 2005 when author Stephenie Meyer wrote a vampire love story about two high school students, Bella and Edward, who engage in a twisted love-hate relationship fueled by Edward’s thirst for blood. In other words, he’s a vampire who’s in love with a human. The book surpassed the fantasy hype that Harry Potter once created (so long wizards!) and it’s causing Latinos, especially, to get in on the fanatical fun towards the Twilight series. Watch the clip and let it drive you craaazy! [MTV Movies Blog]

Lindsay Lohan Goes Nude To Revive Acting Career

linds_lohan.gif
Lindsay Lohan thinks taking off su ropa (otra vez) will grant her access once again to the A-list Hollywood scene. Since when was posing nude ever un buen idea? If it were that easy we would be seeing everyone from Mischa Barton to Ja Rule naked on the magazine stands already. The actress isn’t even getting paid as much as she should for her role in the new indie flick Florence.

An insider told The Sun: “Lindsay doesn’t care she’s getting paid peanuts. She wants to remind people she can act and that she is worth hiring.”

Maybe by taking on a role with less less shock value, the former rehab queen can gain más respeto. [Daily Mail]

UPDATE: We heard Lindsay is being paid just $75K for the role!
