Emos are an odd breed, their skin tight jeans, their emotional sensitivity, and their taste in high pitched girly pop-punk music. Oh, and no te olivides the converse. Every emo kid is rocking the converse sneakers. But normal kids and emos have been able to coexist fine in Gringolandia. Unfortunately, los jovenes in Mexico are not having it. They started their own fight against the angst-ridden emos in their neighborhood, hunting them down at their hangout spots and beating their asses like our mamis did with their chancletas. It’s even spreading in Chile tambien - over there, emos are called PokEMOns. But as much as we want to…uh…sort of laugh (un poquito) at this weird anti-emo movement, we believe violence is never the answer. Whether you’re pro-emo or anti-emo, those chavos got feelings too! On a side note, somebody please tell My Chemical Romance to stay out of Mexico…

Before Fall Out Boy make their suicide Guinness World Record attempt for their concert in Antarctica, they decided to party it up with a show in Santiago, Chile last Sunday. FOB are said to be leaving this Friday from Punta Arenas to Icelandia in their journey “to set the world record for shortest amount of time to play all the world’s seven continents” in under nine months. Their original concert date (March 25) was canceled due to super mal weather conditions in Antarctica so FOB are staying in Punta Arenas a bit longer before their trip. Let’s hope the boys don’t get eaten by polar bears, if there are any left that is. [MTV Newsroom]

Preggers actress Jessica Alba took the liberty to blog about her first music video experience with her baby-daddy-to-be Cash Warren (Por supuesto, who else!). In it, Alba and amigos are lip-syncing to Panic At The Disco’s “Nine in the Afternoon” and guess what, she’s challenging all of us to beat out her and her crew in a lip-synching competition! En serio, girl? We can get down with this lip-syncing business. Oye, if Britney can do it we can too! On a side note, Miss Alba is looking very sexy at seven months pregnant. Not bad girl, not bad.

This video of Frankie J covering the Jonas Brothers’ hit song, “When You Look Me In The Eyes,” in Spanglish is amazing! Who knew he was un fanático? Frankie J sings along with his son and guitarist Andy Quinn who definitely do the song justice. The Jonas Brothers, who were in NYC this past weekend for their hand print ceremony at Planet Hollywood, are the latest teen brother trio sensation to hit the scene since…since…hmm, Hanson? Well if these hermanos are Frankie J-approved then the Jonas Brothers must got it going on!

We got a listen to Melvin Ayala, hermano de Daddy Yankee, on his new venture towards Christian rap and it’s not that bad. Considering that Melvin will be dipping his Puerto Rican toes in the Christian rap world, we probably won’t be seeing any half naked chicas or gangsters-for-life signs in Ayala’s image. His nuevo album, Vivir por Fe, is set to release this month so check it out and see how Christian rap suits your taste. No word yet on whether Daddy Yankee and Melvin have plans to sing together in the future. Wonder which rappero will crossover to the other side? Daddy Yankee con Christian music or Melvin con reggaeton? [MTV Tr3s Radio]

Coldplay’s long-awaited new album will finally hit stores on June 17th titled Viva La Vida. Singer Chris Martin was inspired by the legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to name the album after seeing one of her art works with the phrase painted on it. Es una vergüenza that most people don’t know who Frida Kahlo is, considering that the album title has been mistakenly referred to as a Ricky Martin inspiration. Yea, remember Ricky’s Gringolandia break out song “Living La Vida Loca”? Dios, we still can’t get it out of our heads.
The new record sounds like Coldplay’s most Latin-inspired album to date. Back when they were recording last year, the band revealed that they were highly inspired by Hispanic influences after doing some recording in Latin America and Barcelona, Spain. Looks like Coldplay is getting in on the Latin loving. [Rolling Stone]

This past Sunday was such an emotional victory for Latinoamérica when Juanes’ Paz Sin Fronteras concert drew over 70 thousand fans dressed in white at the Colombia-Venezuela border to celebrate peace for the region.
Spanish artists Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé, Dominicano Juan Luis Guerra, Ecuadorian Juan Fernando Velasco, Venezuelan Ricardo Montaner, and Colombians Carlos Vives and Juanes participated in this amazing event that almost drew Juanes to tears when he saw his hermanos singing side by side with him.
Aww! We are proud of you Juanes and extremely proud of the artists who came on board to show some love. We were a teeny bit disappointed that Shakira could not attend to represent las mujeres in this social cause but she did send her regards to Juanes and pals.
“Regretfully, it is impossible for me to attend this event and I am saddened that I can’t be there on Sunday…I’ll be here wearing white, accompanying you, and know that my Colombian heart is with you all…”
The four-hour show had great tunes and jokes all around with Miguel Bosé telling the crowd “We should clone Juanes, he has balls.” Tee-hee! He said balls!
People, this is such a major event for Latin America and the world! If Latinos can find a way to make peace after being on the brink of war then this is a lesson countries like the United States need to learn. Que viva la raza! [MTV Tr3s]

Holy Jesús María! Latinos singing country!? No way José! But yes chicos y chicas, you’ve read it right. We were super surprised that Julio Iglesias, Jr., Enrique Iglesias’ big hermano, won CMT’s reality show Gone Country. Who would think that a gringo country producer would pick one of our own to change the look of country? But guys, tu sabes, Latinos can make anything look cool, even something as corny as country. Eek! Can you imagine Latino kids wearing cowboy boots and hats out in public? Where would you find that? (Ahem Texas!). We’ll keep an eye on Julio Jr. and see how he does with this mainly Anglo-dominated music audience. We already bought our cowboy get-ups to show our support! Check Julio’s winning song, I Want You, and tell us what you think. [Billboard.com]
